Do you know about the seed library?

Kansas City Public Library

The Seed Library at the Ruiz Branch of the Kansas City Public Library (2107 W. Pennway St., Kansas City, MO 64108) offers patrons free flower and vegetable seeds and other resources for gardeners.

The program allows patrons to “check out” vegetable and flower seeds to plant in their home gardens. All a patron needs is a valid Kansas City Public Library card. After selecting their seeds, patrons take them to the checkout desk as they would a book or DVD. As the plant reaches maturity at the end of its growing season, patrons are asked to collect the seeds, dry them out, place them in an envelope, and return them to the Ruiz Branch to help re-stock the Seed Library for the next season.

The Seed Library houses an expanded collection of gardening books and cookbooks. There also are free classes on a variety of gardening matters offered throughout the growing season. Topics include composting, beekeeping, seed saving, container gardening and vegetable garden basics.
